finger printing from pics?
    #4609121 - 09/01/05 03:55 PM (3 years, 5 days ago)

I posted a picture recently of some dude holding a mushroom. When I looked at the post, you could clearly see the lines of his fingerprint. I imediately deleted, croped, and reposted the picture because I have no idea who that poor person is and don't want them to get in trouble.

But in general, could a leo use a picture of a finger as a fingerprint?

Would that hold up in court?

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

If you can see the lines of a fingerprint in a photo, and can scale it properly, then I would suspect yes. I'm not sure how much lens effects, distances, angles, etc would distort the "print" in the picture. I suspect this would be more difficult than the normal way they do things, but probably not by much.

Hard to say. It would certainly be an area of debate... can a digital photo of a fingerprint be altered to make it look like somebody elses print... etc... It would boil down to who has the most money to hire expert witnesses.

Never mind the print...it doesn't matter...the photo isn't admissible evidence unless they bring someone in to testify that the photo is an accurate depiction of what was there...good luck finding that dude...

Sounds a little paranoid to me. Something like that would never hold up in court, there are just too many variables. Still, better safe than sorry i guess.

LEO is creating a database on everyone...you never know when laws may change. It is always good to be lookin out for those kinda things even if it may be kinda paranoid...its just good practice. Look at this site on how easy it is to take and create someone elses finger print Making a Print

yeah you won't be able to renew your drivers license without getting your finger prints scanned most anywhere you go .... and if your state hasn't adopted such a program yet, it will.

I was going to post this as a new topic, but a search revealed this was brought up here already, so I figured I'd add it...

A mate of mine, recently got home from Iraq; his last assignment was forensic photo work, specifically looking at fingerprints of suspected terrorists from web photos.

He said there is also a US/Israeli company that is planning to sell this technology to LEO worldwide.

So watch where you put your fingers
