As a self-described "Metaphysician," for lack of a better term, I've experienced much the same thing as you have. The difference is, it's not about drugs or not drugs (I'm a very light, intermittant user, not really enough to qualify me for a "scene.")
In my case it's difficult to find people with whom I connect with on a spiritual level, people who look beyond the surface of life. I thought hanging out with New Agers and philosophers would help. It didn't. I found many of them to be flaky and cosmic-cookie-like, as bad or worse than the Christians I was surrounded by. So what it boils down to is that the deeper you're willing to look, the fewer people you'll be able to call friend. But this isn't a bad thing. On the contrary. The friendships you have will be on a firm foundation, and you'll learn to rely on yourself.

I also think there's a huge difference between drug friends that you just hang out with to share a high and waste time.... and FRIENDS that you like to get high with.

Well said, Leery11. That's doubly true when said friends look to you for supplies. Those kinds of friends evaporate like smoke from a final toke when you have nothing to offer them.
Also, I've noticed that people who are terribly interesting during poker and drinking night tend to seem very uninteresting in the light of day. And I'm talking just friends-- not one night stands or anything sexual.
