nvm, got the answer. the jar will have to be boiled once a day for 30 minutes and this has to go on for three days.

Yeah, much easier to just buy a pressure cooker than to waste all that time on something that MIGHT work.

assume for a minute that everyone isn't living in the U.S. and PC's are expensive and hard to find. if you are able to do that.

Maybe stick with PF cakes? You could do 3 sets of jars...instead of boiling the same jars 3 times.

Plus, PF cakes can produce some quality fruits, and can produce even more when casing them.

You will also get more reliable, more consistent results than by using fractional sterilization.

They even make envelopes out of it. http://envelopes.tyvek.com/en/index2.shtml

Just cut the envelopes down to size and screw them down under the lid band, you can do quite a few jars with a box of 50 envelopes, inoculate straight through it and cover your inoculation hole with alcohol soaked micopore tape, works every time:thumbup:

They don't have to be perfect circles.
Odd-shaped squares will screw down under the bands.

I think Blut' meant... "cut the tyvek"
We just find it interesting that they use the stuff for envelopes.

Yes thank you, thats exactly what I meant and yes I have never made an attempt to make them round, just cut into squares big enough that the lid band will screw down over them and your good to go:rockon:

i was wondering how you are keep your temps in the closet, setting room temp? using a fan? a small heater?

i like the idea of the tent style fc, but it seems difficult to control the temp/humid parameters.... maybe not, you tell me

~If I understand your questions......Control the temp. however is easiest for you. Use a cheap hygrometer and thermometer so you know if you need to adjust. ~Pixie~

Hi there, I'm following these instructions as closely as humanly possible for a first timer. I've been incubating my jars for 2.5 days and haven't seen any mycelium yet. My jars are sealed and the inoculation holes are covered with band aids. Should air be able to enter the jars for mycelium to form?

Oh, and in the air related question, yes, gas exchange is necessary but the amount of air that gets through the pores in the band aid will be enough. During colonization only small amounts of air need to be exchanged.

Well, first try failed. Ended up with small amounts of green mold, and no mycelium. No biggie. I traced the problem back to sterilization. Gonna try again this weekend with a fresh strain of B+ hehe

I got mine off ebay, shipped worldwide for $40 including shipping. (I happened to be inside the US so it was only $25 inc shipping)
