coffee filters instead of dry vermiculite layer?

I am doing standerd BRF PF jars and I was wonder if i could use coffee filters instead of dry vermiculite layer. If so how?

No you cant use coffee filters. The coffee filter would absorb moisture and harbor contams.

What you want to do with a PF jar is use a 1/2" dry verm layer, 4 holes and a tin foil lid without covering the holes. NO method I have ever seen can beat just tin foil for colonization time/contam rate. I can get a jar in 10-12 days with tin foil and holes on some strains. If you really want to replace a dry verm layer, I would recommend just not using anything. Or using tyvek and innoculating through that, but there's really no need.

yea and btw, if you have a coffee filter on top it can interfear with air exchange (btw i'm talking about in addition to the dry vermiculite layer) Take care
