Do Many Nightmares=Many Bad Trips?

I've never tripped yet. I'm a little scared to do so, becuase I almost always see things out of the cornor of my eyes that freak me out at night (little things like flases of lights or black spots). I also sometimse hear things that aren't there. A almost never have nightmares though.
I've been wondering if seeing things at night and having nightmares are indications of if your mind is likely or not to have a bad trip?

if you have psychological problems id highly advise against doing any psychedelic drug. doing drugs like lsd or mushrooms may intensify any pre existing problems that you have. thats something youd have to live with for life in any case, tripping is all about mindset and settng. be happy and be safe

i find a bad trip isn't one that frieks you out a little, but one that makes you think things like, my life sucks...
it's also nearly impossible to guess what kind of trip you may have until you do it. some people love it, some hate it. but alot of the ones i've seen hate it had serious underlying problems that their trip made them focus on, but not to boogy man...

getting freaked out by lights etc at night means youre potentially going to react the same to hallucinations which would qualify a bad trip a bad trip can mean you freak out (get scared) not just get really sad

I actually am not negativly affected by little hallucinations that I see at night anymore, because I just say to myself (in my mind):
I see that, but i know that it isn't real.
by me doing that the things i see are less intence and they dont mess with my head

well i probably shouldn't trip, and probably will, but i can maybe offer minute perspective, since i quite definitely trip on pot (what i'd call a level 2 based upon psychedelic levels i read, maybe 2/3 hybrid)
and.... the thing with visuals at least, if pot is similar to other hallucinations from other drugs (in low doses we're saying here) .... is that they are quite "normal" they make take shape and form and turn into things but unless you are in a DARK ROOM they don't really take on a "creepy" persona per se.... and even then it's more like just colors are swirling around you....
i think where the nightmares, etc you said would come into play would be if you were mind tripping... because for me what i see isn't scary, it's what i think, and then it's hard to stop thinking about it, and say if i'm trying to fall asleep on weed and i get stuck thinking about my fears, I sort of "morph into them" *almost* while having a myoclonic jerk coming out of a light sleep state, and sometimes for like half a second I "sense" and "feel" what I fear literally enveloping and manifesting around me, and then it's gone.
so yeah you can freak out, but i'd say if you did it in the day and you didn't get too high a dose (and this is just soley speculation) that kind of stuff shouldn't really be a problem.

Seeing flashes of light and hearing things that aren't there may be a pre-cursor to some type of psychotic epsiode. Do you have any family history of Bipolar disorder or Schizophrenia? I would advise you to stay away from drugs in general if you do have a family history and if you do, you might want to get a psych eval done if there is potential for you to develop either, just a thought

Tripping is so radically different than normal waking or even sleeping life. I mean yes its dream-like in a lot of ways... it feels like a lucid dream sometimes, and the serotinin receptor it targets is linked to the dream state. But you shouldn't worry about your nightmares correlating with your trips...
You can prepare by reading some leary or even The Buddhist Way to Happiness by sylvia boorstein, which has helped me out.
Don't let nightmares scare you away from an entire new world... even bad trips are worth having, imo. Like someone said, they're not about creeping things in the dark, but more about your life and your attitudes, good or bad, tripping is amazing... AND helpful.

I plan to trip on some shrooms in the near future as well. Ive always been a fan of pot and my friend talked me into some shrooms. I had the same question, Im a very easy person to freak out. I just get startled easy and was wondering if that was bad but I think Im going to be fine.

I usually have terrible, intense nightmares every night.
But I haven't had any problems on mushrooms.

i also tend to hallucinate sounds or some visual things which arent there while totally sober, but these are just as likely to be related to proper nutriotion and how tired u cud get during the day as they are likely to be the root of some psychological problems. anyway go out into the nature for the trip. take a small dosage and see what happens.
