This is a repost of material that was sent to the Mexicana archive before I was finished. I was able to edit the archived post to put in more information but noone would have been able to comment there. ----------------------------------------------------- Multispore culture of Psilocybe mexicana - Jalisco strain fruited on grass seed cased with peat/calcium carbonate. Several phenotypes were observed and documented. The best looking mushroom with good spore production was cloned (far right specimen)

Results of fruiting of cloned mushroom (1st flush). Evidence that the increased spore production trait has been retained is shown by a spore deposit on a lower mushroom cap (lower left image). A good early sign that a strain will produce spores well is a very dark caramel colored cap, pale or orangish specimens produce spores poorly.
No sclerotia is visible in the casing layer at this time. Typically, other strains of mexicana put a great deal of energy into large lumps of sclerotia that heave up the casing layer prior and during fruiting. Jalisco does produce some sclerotia invitro after long incubation times.
