While we should be keeping an eye on this issue it is occuring too slow for this to be a concern even for the next 100 years or so.

Social stigma always wins out over common sense and pragmatism.

im well aware that 2005 is the low end of the time frame for the peak.. its in the link i posted...but if thats the case and we are already at this point..then it puts us well on track for a major crisis to erupt by 2012...

The_Red_Crayon said: Saying the mayans have no merit is a very ignorant thing to say. The Mayans were modern masters at astronomy and their calendar is even more accurate than our gregorian one.
I didn't say that the Mayan calendar has no merit. I said that the western "scholars/scientists" who write about it and claim they will know what will happen have no merit.
Bishop Landa did a great job of destroying many Mayan codices in his bonfire in the townsquare of Merida back in the 16th century.
Only about 3 to 4 complete or partial codices remain. So I think it's rather wrong of western "scholars and scientists" to claim they know what will happen in the year 2012 when we are dealing with texts that we only have pieces of.
Anyway, 2012 is just the end of a Mayan calendar cycle. That's it.

For Americans and Canadians where grain is grown in the greateast quantity the profit would be enormous. The oil companies would have to become energy companies and switch paradigms to continue...in the end the rest of the world would follow our lead and we would be the largest distributors of energy in the world. We would have world domination by following ethical, environmentally friendly policies.
I was talking in respects to the oil companies that are determining much of our economy as well as our politics through their power on the monopolization on our oil economy.
The trouble isn't the feasibility, the trouble isn't the logistics... The issue rests at heart in whether or not those in power of energy would allow for such a conversion.
Theirs as much to gain... as their is to lose. Lots of money to be gained through conversion of old equipment... loss of revenue to those that specialize in oil driven; machinery, production, and distribution to name a few. The trouble starts with the initial conversion, not how viable the plan is.

Politics and control. Those in power don't want to give it up. Those who don't have it have to overcome that before a paradigm shift will occur. This can be emotional too. That's one of the things that dramatically slows scientific progress.
-------------------- "People convince themselves of their own lies, becoming victims of their own inventions as they begin to direct their lives by standards of behavior, ideas, feelings, or instincts which do not correspond to their inner reality. What is truly serious in this matter is that the individual loses all points of reference regarding what comprises truth, and what comprises lies. He becomes used to considering as true only that which is convenient for his personal interests; everything that is in opposition to his self-esteem or in conflict with already established prejudices, he considers false."

You said the key thing here. People have to make the changes to overcome the problems of the world. The planets aren't going to do it for anyone. At best, with conscious awareness increasing/goes hand in hand with information age of satellite TV and the Internet, we are better becoming aware of what those problems are. In the process it only seems and will keep seeming like things are getting worse. Really, more collectively, we are just beginning to see what has always been going on.
Even if the change you make is just the way you choose to look at things, that in itself can be enough to turn the tide as energy flows where attention goes.
