afoaf picked about 4oz wet of some eq's yesterday that he had grown. He grew them on wbs spawned to straw. They werent full size yet but he had to pick them because he is moving by the 1st. Anyway He put them in two small ziplock bags and threw them in the freezer. About two hours later he took them out of the bags and put them on a plate with paper towels over them in front of a fan on high. The next morning when he checked on them the paper towels were wet and had turned blue and the shrooms were pitch black and the size of tooth picks. My question is why did these do that and are they still good to eat?

I don't know WHY they do it, but if you freeze fresh mushrooms, they will liquify when you unthaw them. Atleast thats been my experience.

OK I did a search (like i should have before posting sorry) and have found that if you freeze shrooms while they are fresh the cell walls will rupture causing them to turn black and in a worst case to turn into sludge. My freinds did not turn to sludge but did turn black. However i still did not get a answere as to wether or not they are still good to eat and if he will trip balls. So if anyone knows please share with us.

if they are tiny and black and the paper was blue, i very highly doubt that they are active.
Safe to eat? probably. Active? Don't think so.

@Morrowind
Thats exactly what i thought as well. Especialy when he told me about how the paper towels turned blue. Sounds like they sucked up all the good stuff.

when put in the freezer it oxidizes the shrooms

No harm can come from questioning. "Best" case scenerio: You prove it right without relying on the fact that it is widely accepted. Argument strengthened. "Worst" case scenerio: You realize you might have been wrong. The new answer might or might not be what you want to hear, but it beats defending yourself with bullshit.
