i wouldn't have opened the jar until i was sure i was ready to fruit. i guess i'd dunk and roll that one, and give the others a few days to gather some strength... then birth them...

The verm layer has nothing to do with anything and neither do these stands, I dont know why you keep bring them up like they mean anything.
There is ONE thing that matters. ONE way to tell when they're ready to birth. ONE and ONE only...and that ONE way is, when all the wet stuff (dry layer doesnt matter) is FULLY colonized, 100%, inside and out.
If its not, then its not ready. If it is, then its ready. Period.
Easy enough?

Missed the second question first time around...1 capfull should be enough if your talking a pint cake filled with water and h202. Dont forget, there wont be very much water in the jar, the cake takes up most of the room. A splash of h202 should be plenty. The fridge will help keep contams from developing too (cold slows all growth down).
