 ack! how do I dry all these shrooms...

Gotta make this quick...
So I finally harvested my first harvest last night... and it was WAY more than i expected.... as in around 1050 wet grams, when i was expecting about 300... If you wanna see my setup look up my earlier threads, it's described in detail... but basically 12 PF cakes to 12 half-cakes and 4 casings. I got tonnes of photos and some pretty good stories too, but those we'll have go to another post which i can spend some time on - right now my concern is how the hell the dry all these mushies!
I got them in four ~250gr brown paper bags in my fridge... how long can i keep them there? I'm guessing not long....
This is the eq. I got: a 12inch house fan. access to a couple small bags of dry-z-air(decissant), and basic household stuff, like, uh, paper.
I was going to build a little deccissant drying chamber, but i have way too many shrooms for it, and plus they matured faster than i expected and i don't have it built yet!
what can i do to dry them all, and soon? BTW, I live in a place with high RH... around 60%, which is great for growing but not so great now i suppose...

*edit* since some people only read posts with pics, here's one of my favs from last night... I swear that shroom is trying to eat the one in front of it... hungry hungry!

Get them out of the fridge for starters.
Ley them out on paper towels in a dry room... for a few days.

LOl, Why not just fan dry for 24hs and then use a ghetto desiccant chamber? Cheap and it works, ck out the search function, search for desiccant(sp?) chambers...Gl

Is the fridge doing any damage too them...? I mean more than regular temps..
i can't really afford a food dehyrdrator right now
ok i will just lay them all out on abunch of paper towel and put the fan over them.... hopefully that does the job. i have an urge to incorporate the deccissant... maybe i'll just put trays on it infront of the fan....

I noticed that you used casings... is this your first time? It's mine and I really want to try out casing, need some advice.

Lay those mushrooms out on a wire mesh or screen in a single layer. Put a fan on them at medium speed. In 24 hours or so most of the moisture will be gone. Remove them from the fan and finish drying them in an airtight container with a desiccant, like DryRite.

go look in a 2nd hand store for an American Harvest Snackmaster dehydrator.
they have a temp. dial on them...set it on the lowest setting...95
you can usually pick one up for less than $6.00 in the 2nd hand stores.
if they have more than one...buy the others...you can use the extra trays on one dehydrator.
new the dehydrator goes for $49.00 to $59.00 and only comes with 4 trays.
new trays cost $10 to $15 for 2.
so check those 2nd hand stores.

Dog - will do. sounds like a great idea - thanks so much!
Cray - yup this is my first time. Honestly casings are really easy, i cased in 100% verm too this time. no probs with contams either, still don't know what one looks like.  In fact i intended to do all half-cakes, but ran out of space quick while birthing, so i ran to the store bought some aluminum cake trays... bit of verm... spray... crumbled cakes, more verm... spray. bingo done

Double DITTO on American Harvest dehydrator, with thermostat. Have several. You cannot get a better dryer. Saves time & bs. Slice fat ones in half, fill trays, turn on & forget for a day. When they are "cracker", vaccum seal.

Roadkill & agar - thanks for the dehydrator tip. I'm still not sure if i'm going to do another batch though, so i'm trying to keep the long-term investments down, but i can definitely see how it'd be the simplest and most efficient method
I followed dog's suggestion and I got 3/4 of them drying out now...

Alder is not the BEST type of wood to use
Heat drying cubes is okay and recommended
Sunflower seeds do not cause contams
You should directly mist your cakes

Lipa Yai and B+... that drying pic is of the Lipa Cakes and Casings, and the B+ cakes... the ones closer to the fan are LY. the b+ casings are in another chamber

Boffsun, congrats on a job well done. I recently harvested my first 9 cakes and ran into the same problem, 570 wet grams and wasn't really expecting that. What a nice surprise though. Didn't know what to do, but they say necessity is the mother of all invention, so this is what I gave birth to.  It's my double bamboo steamer on top of an old fan I had laying around. Worked like a champ, dryed the whole works in two days,  Plus, leave the last few you dry in there, return to kitchen, add some veggies, little chicken, steam for one hour and enjoy the best Chineese you ever had, or Thai depending on what kind of strain you were growing.
