The drug bust went down on westbound I-69 at the Capac rest area near the Lapeer/St. Clair county border.
Seized was 850 pounds of marijuana with a street value that could exceed $3.8 million. The pot was found on in the trailer of a semi as it was headed from Canada, possibly to Gary, Indiana.
The semi was stopped as part of a truck safety operation by the state police motor carrier division as they checked on the safety of the big rigs.
Troopers became suspicious when the semi driver said he wasn't there when the trailer was loaded, and that's in violation of the codes.
Once detectives started digging through the trailer, hundreds of packages of 1-pound processed marijuana were found.
The driver, from Ontario, Canada, was arrested and is in the St. Clair County Jail facing charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver.
