Hi, i'm back again.. finally had time to gut this hood.. I removed that ballast, and those pesky lights and sockets that were connected too. Now, there's there cords coming from the main cord, that plugs into the wall, Green, Black, and White. The green is the ground, and has been setup for its purpose, and the Black goes to the main switch, and I see the White having the connection from the motor being wired off with it. My question is that, in rewiring this unit to use two separate switches (one for each motor). I need to have two tied off wires from the black cord, one going to the bottom of the switch of motor one, and one going to the bottom of the switch on motor 2. Now for the white connection, does that need to come into contact with the switch at all? Or does the only purpose it serves is to have a large wirecap supporting more 1 and motor 2 being plugged into together? Now for the connections at the top of the switch, I plugged motor 1 into the top, that's a hot line coming from the speed controler, I did the same for both motors to their respective place at the top of the switch. I also replaced the second motor, that kept stopping.. I'm hoping once I get a confirmation that that's the correct way, I'll wrap things up tonight, and finally be able to use this thing. Thanks for the help!

I figured it out. Things finally seem to be working! I guess all the frustration was worth it.

Great! The green as you said is ground, and should be connected to the chassis of the motor. White is common, and should be tied to the white wire from each motor. Black is the 'hot' and is the one you run through the switches.
I suspected the problem was the burned lugs on the old wiring. I'd let it run for a few hours before using for sterile work. RR

Thanks a lot for all the help everyone.. that new motor is really working out great! I'm using the medium speed wire, and wired off the others(high and low) with caps of their own, to keep them out of the way. So far things are a go.
