Do you have a good sized plenum behind the filter? That's key to laminar flow. RR

its a divider between the filter and the fan, basicly a board with a whole in the middle of it. it redirects the air flow

ok so its a full board against the back of the filter but just off of it like several inches .. how big should the hole be? so the fan goes behind this board and pressurizes the space the blower sits in .. that sends a steady stream into the middle of the hepa? I thought a plate in the back of the filter with slots on the sides would make for more even flow into the hepa? I wish there was a pic of this .. I will try searching

You don't need a board. The blower output should be at a right angle to the filter, not blowing directly on it.
A plenum is an air space behind the filter that is pressurized by air from the blower. Once the air is pressurized, it exerts the same amount of force on every square centimeter of the filter, thus giving laminar flow. If there is more pressure on part of the filter, that part will flow more, causing turbulence and eddy currents in your work area. The pleneum evens out the pressure, thus you get laminar flow. RR

shouldnt your output cfm from the filter be 200-400 cfm optimally?

RR said 400 CFM for my 2x2x11" filter ,but I will loose some due to prefilter so it should be just about right ..
I think its 100 linear ft/second is the standard

What Roger said. In the design at http://www.fungifun.org/English/Flowhood the blower sits in the plenum itself!

Your blower is fine for 4 square feet. A linear air speed of 90 feet per minute, to about 130 feet per minute, will be fine. In addition, there will be a bit of loss from friction, turns, etc., that will cut down on the flow. If you feel later that it's still blowing too hard, simply block off part of the intake to cut down the flow. RR

oh I couldn't figuer out how you could mount a blower without alot of space behind the filter, so thats why i thought the board with a hole in it was a plenum.
so my flowhood should be built right then, and my silicon should be cured today and ill try it out and see if it blows even now.
