Results of multispore inoculation, Psilocybe mexicana, Jalisco

Small multispore test tray of Psilocybe mexicana, Jalisco strain. Grass seed cased with peat/calcium carbonate.

Selective harvest of various phenotypes of the above tray. The one on the far right was deemed the best and has been cloned for future work.

Clone isolated and fruited - 1st flush. Note the quality of the mushroom shape, color and spore production.

Very nice!!!
Hey man, I have some questions (if you wan?t to answer them) What is your grain/water ratio? How long did you incubate the grain? Did you cold shock it for a long time? At what temps are you fruiting them? Do you think it?s better to start from multispore instead of agar wedges?
Thanks and GL.

Grain/water ratio 2:1 Incubated 2 weeks at 75-80F No cold shock Fruiting at 75-78F These were inoculated with agar wedges, but no isolation of strains on the agar was attempted. I personally never use spore syringes.

So, with psilo mex and maybe other exotic shrooms it?s better to inoc. grain with lots of strains instead of "trying" to isolate a single fruiting strain on agar, right? You know, I started not long ago with ps.mex and pan cyans cultivation via isolation of strains on agar and the failure is 100%. Everything is healthy but not a single fruit.
Thanks.

This is just what prefer to do when I only have spores, maybe its not ideal but it works for me. If a fresh mushroom is available I prefer a clone for the first attempt.

Would you share your agar recipe for use with mexicana? Also how long after a multispore inoculation of the agar do you see growth? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just use commercial malt agar. I think its 2% malt.
I generally see growth in 4-10 days at 85F. Depends on how good your eyes are.
