I asked this at dmt world too but id figure i'd also ask here.
This question is for those of you out there who have been to the other side(s) of the universe via dmt
What do you guys think about the theory that dmt is released in your brain when you die?

I've done DMT 3 times. Each time was totally indescribable and just fucking amazing. I've thought about this theory too, and it makes since to me. You hear about people that have had near death experiences, or people that have actually died for a few seconds but were revived. They always say they were being flown up to heaven or they saw angels yada yada yada. Sounds like vivid hallucinations to me, so it sounds logical.
DMT is the ultimate tool.

I find it very believable. I was amazed to discover that the human body produced it. I wish I could just find the "switch"!

well seems like a pretty easy theory to test out. all you have to do is open up a freshly dead brain and see if it is flooded with DMT. its an interesting idea though. as we all know DMT is naturally produced within the human brain, specifically by the pineal glad. its about the size of a pea and is located right about in the middle of your brain. there is no definitive answer why the dmt is there but many speculate that it plays a role in dreaming. there are also theories that blame what people experience as alien abduction to accidental releases of dmt in the brain. not much known about the whole issue but really interesting ground.

haha i think it would be pretty hard to get the body of somebody who JUST died, and dig into their brain and test for a psychedelic drug
legal wise
its interesting though, rick strassman was saying how he tested some pineal glands but the people had been dead for a while and there was nothing there

if true it would make my head bend a few more turns around certain things. although ive never read anything concrete about it, i could see it.

Personally I think there is probably some degree of legitimacy to it..Hell, I may as well say I think it's plausible my body may have released some amount of it on one occasion while it was under a pretty excessive amount of stress..or perhaps if not indigenous DMT something else that could have contributed my encountering very familliar and distict electric-like tapestries of colour I would normally associate with the DMT experience.. I must say at the time it definitely felt as if I were tapping into the same energy as I had some odd number of times before then using DMT.. Though I guess I would probably compare whatever it was that occurred to a low dose Aya experience at best. I guess 3 days of no sleep and extreme dehydration might not quite be enough to break through wit the ole' indigenous stash..

there is a Dr. Callaway in Finland who did research on DMT. Not too familiar with it myself, but I think he did show that there were elevated DMT levels at certain times in a persons life. Anyhoo, my own breakthrough experience was more of an alien contact sorta thing, which could certainly go along with the idea that DMT facilitates the movement of the soul out of the body. As to where the soul goes, I believe this is dependent upon the soul itself.

hmm I don't see the logic here... -->they see stuff, you assume it's vivid hallucinations so it must be because of DMT?
there is probably not even enough DMT in the brain to trip fromm in the first place

I dig Stefan's thinking. But I wonder about the brain getting flooded with neurochems at near-death/death. Any bio/chem people like to step in here? What of the similarity of NDE visions? Do we want to think this is conforming to a preconceived notion of "the light tunnel" or that there may be a common chemical in our heads that spews out at a time of worst crisis?
