Yo Pub,
I'm supposed to do a term paper for this class ; Critical Thinking & Writing
It has to be about some aspect of the media: TV, Newspapers, Radio, Internet, etc.
I'm thinking along the lines of some sort of evolution one of these have undergone but I need to narrow it down.
Any ideas would be much appreciated

talk about how in the last few decades the media focus more and more on that individuals must be unique and do their own thing and be independant and have to find out who they are.

You could do a paper on how the US sensors all the tv news that it's citizens watch to give them a certain message, as compared to say the bbc. Like how they don't actually show dead bodies when they do war coverage... wtf!?
Another one would be the amazing amount of prescription drug commercials that are on tv now. It's just insane, because you can't get these drugs without going to a doctor, but if you're going to a doctor in the first place, shouldn't he/she know what drugs to prescribe since that's what you're, oh I don't know, paying him/her for? It's funny that there are so many prescription drug commercials for a country that's been fighting the 'war against drugs' for so long!

Well I used to be a Media Studies teacher! (Not a brilliant oone though, I might add).
If you want to look at how something has evolved - try choose a certain strata of, for example, TV - the changes in sitcoms, the presentation of the news, documentaries (a lot can be said about the shift to reality TV shows which blur the lines of documentary and entertainment).
All depends on what your brief is.
