More than a half ton of marijuana was found buried in sand dunes near this popular island resort, Coast Guard officials said Friday.
The 20 bales of marijuana were found Thursday in sand dunes a few miles north of the island's strip of hotels and businesses after Cameron County park police reported suspicious activity.
Authorities declined to be more specific on the nature of the suspicious activity.
Authorities found the stash using drug-sniffing dogs after they noticed an area of sand that was recently brushed, possibly to hide footprints.
No arrests have been made so far.

Wow, if I found that much pot on the beach
