hemlock varnish shelf--are they medicinal?
    #3623068 - 01/13/05 10:38 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Greetings from the U.P.
A friend of mine gave me a few of these (hemlock varnish shelf) and had them misidentified as reishi mushrooms. They look like a very close relative and I'm wondering if they have the same medicinal value. Advice or info would be much appreciated!

There are some reports of Ganoderma tsugae possessing medicinal value similar to G. lucidum. I have no personal knowledge of the medicinal qualities of either species.

A quick Google search shows a bunch of sites indicating that it is often used similarly to Ganoderma lucidum. There is also research being done to determine specific medical effects.

Happy mushrooming!
