The problem with fentanyl is you REALLY need to know how to use it correctly if you are going to try and get high off of it. And 80% of the people that approach it from a recreational standpoint DO NOT know how to use it right. I feel as if I could safely use it and I can aquire it, but fuck that stuff....

my friend felt he could safely use it... so he took a safe dose, then half an hour later he forgot he did it and took another safe dose... he was puking and shitting for three days on the verge of death...

No, Fentanyl has been around for a VERY long time, as far as new one's Purdue (maker of OC's) is working on a time-release form of hydromorphone (or diludad) this is sure to be a BIG hit on the streets. Also there he some weird one comming out that isn't even opiate based...starts with a P.

I finally figured out what bugs me about this article. Had the author used the following headline: Boy dies after mixing marijuana and a synthetic opiate 40 times more potent than heroin I probably wouldn't be as annoyed.

that how my old roomate's boyfriend's brother died. it wasnt the 1st time he did it, he was in really bad shape after some accident and the time and always using lots of drugs even before that. he was really fucked up, when he did it too. his girlfriend found him dead in the morning after he passed out. my roomate 1st told me when i was talking about having a beer with hydrocodone (yea bad idea i know). i later heard the whole story from his boyfriend.

Fentanyl was first created in 1960 by a chemist working for a Belgian pharmaceutical company called Jannsen Pharmeceutica. This chemist's name was Dr. Paul Jannsen. Although the compound was discovered in 1960 it was not realeased into the public until 1963. THe first step that Dr. Jannsen took in his synthesis of fentanyl was to react n-phenethyl-piperidone with aniline to create 4-anilino-n-Phenethyl-piperidine. This is then reacted with propionyl chloride giving Dr. Jannsen pure fentanyl. As you can see this is a fairly complicated process. The next step is to dilute the pure fentanyl becuase fentanyl when it is pure is toxic.
Fentanyl is not only used in the medical world but also used on the streets illegally. It is an opiate, which is a drug that contains or behaves like an opium product, the effects of fentanyl are almost the exact same as those of the drug heroin. Illegal use did not start until the 1970's. Fentanyl, when used illegally is most often used with a shot. But it can also be smoked or snorted if desired.
Shortly after its discovery in 1960, another form of fentanyl was discovered that is widely used today and that is fentanyl citrate. Fentanyl citrate allows for patients to have fast pain relief, up to 80 times that of morphine, by simply sucking on a "lollipop".
