Here are some pics of a wild strain of Paneeolus cyanescens that we recently received. It was labeled "undomesticated Carrebean".
Substrate is cow dung/straw/vermiculite sterilised in an autoclavable filter patch bag. This was spawned with rye spawn and incubated for 10 days at roomtemp.
A shallow casing layer of peat/limestone/vermic. was applied and after 5 days the top part of the bag was cut away and the bag was placed in a fruiting chamber. Pins appeared 6 days after.

nice una. :)
i like, unfortunately im not fond of the speceis. those little insignificant caps and those panaeolus stipes that will dry up to be nothing more than little brown hairs. :P
i just cant immagine that species being substantial as a commercial crop. tho it IS quite potent, i think that they are better for personal use :) a quality issue, i guess im just a quantity guy. now if you could get them to grow as they do in nature perhaps then youed have both quaities. :)

Very nice Una. What I am curious about is just how deep is that bag of substrate (dung/straw/verm) ?
Its really hard to tell from the picture.
What we have experience with panaeolus species is if you use to deep of a substrate layer they wont fruit.
Anything 2" of depth or less is fine, anything deeper they just colonize and sit for months and month and never fruit.
Yet your bag of substrate looks very deep, is it just the picture?

Una is on vacation for 3 weeks.
Yes, the bag seem at least a few(3-4) inches deep.

i tried growing those fuckin pieces of craps!!! they only grew to be like 1 1/2 inches and i only got a quarter once. they are way to small. i will try to grow them again in the future, when i get more supplies.
