mkw and flac wont play anything, just decode to .wav .

Nope, foobar is just a player but a damn good one.
Converting from a lossy format like mp3 to a lossless one like APE kind of defeats the purpose because the final result will still sound like an mp3. If you want to rip straight from CD to lossless files than take up less room than WAV, visit http://monkeysaudio.com/ and get their compressor. You can download a lot of albums that are already in this format through any P2P program like Edonkey2k or Bittorent.

xmms, would be using something a bit more modern for the nix systems, but projectm (milkdrop for linux) only works with xmms.

I've never really used windows media player too much, but I finally gave in and I can't really complain! I bought a little plug in, DFX or something, and it really makes the music sound kickass! I'm not the biggest audio buff, but yeah, I'm still not complaining.

Exactly, i have my 40 or so Gig of MP3's playing through itunes. The latest version 4.7 (i think) has some good changes. Smart playlists are extremely versatile and very quick. Searching is very fast. I have never had a problem with it.
I have never used winamp though so i can't compare. Does anyone care to list the advantages or disadvantages of winamp over itunes?
This thread reminds me i need some more speakers. Not sure whether to go 5.1 or 7.1 hmmmmmmmm
I have an creative extigy external soundcard but the bugger won't work with my older Altec Lansing 4.1's

Has anyone gotten their Ipod to play MPC, APE, and OGG music formats? I'm really anxious to get these to work on my mini.
