Boletes and Amanitas! Central CA, pics.
    #3362219 - 11/14/04 09:48 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

The early rains seem to have led to a somewhat early season here. These pictures were taken between Stockton and Sacramento California.

Some rotten boletes with amanitas in the background.

This is one of the biggest troops of boletes I've seen.

A big bolete. Too old for picking.

Amanita buttons. I also saw a fairy ring of amanitas, but was unable to capture the whole seen in one photo.

Boletes are just a type of mushrooms classification.

Some are edible and rated choice. There are toxic species also.

Nice. I found alot of Boletes, Leccinum, and Suilius yesterday.

Threw them out of my basket though. It got too full of chanterelles, matsutake, and hedgehog mushrooms.

Season is about over here in Oregon for members ot the Boletaceae family.

Herbus:

The boletes and amanitas were found with oaks near a river.

Stinkfish:

Those are king boletes, sometimes known as porcini. They are quite good. However you want to get them when they are relatively young and firm. If they are spongy, they are probably wormy.

Another amanita.
