When I was in middle school my English teacher, every time a student would get hiccups, would have the class look at the clock and time for 2 minutes- if the student hiccuped within that 2 minutes, then he/she would get a piece of candy or some other prize. It actually worked every time.

It doesn't ALWAYS work, but a teaspoon of sugar seems to be magic sometimes.... If you get the opiate hickups from smoking cigs, it is a lost cause....

I like to fill a glass with water, put a butter knife in it (handle first) and then balance the end of the knife on your nose while drinking the entire glass of water.
Always has worked for me.
