Radiohead - Creep

One of my favorite songs from Radiohead, and definitely the best song off Pablo Honey (which was, other than that, a disappointment from Radiohead). This was also the song that made them big over here in North America. If you've listened to the song before, you probably remember that awesome crunch that Jonny does on the guitar just before each chorus? Well that wasn't even supposed to be a part of the song! The story is that the band was getting tired after a long day in the studio, and Creep was the last song they were recording. Jonny thought it would be funny to try and RUIN the song with that crunch noise...but it turned out to be exactly what the song needed
When you were here before, Couldn't look you in the eye, You're just like angel, Your skin makes me cry! You float like a feather, In a beautiful world. I wish I was special! You're so fucking special!
But I'm a creep! I'm a weirdo! What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here...
I don't care if it hurts I want to have control I want a perfect body I want a perfect soul I want you to notice When I'm not around You're so fucking special! I wish I was special!
But I'm a creep! I'm a weirdo! What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here!
She's running out again! She's running out, she's run, run, run, run!
Whatever makes you happy Whatever you want You're so fucking special I wish I was special But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here I don't belong here...
-------------------- You're here because you know something.
What you know you can't explain,
But you feel it;
You've felt it your entire life.
That there's something wrong with the world.
You don't know what it is, but it's there....
Like a splinter in your mind...
Driving you mad.

My understanding is that Radiohead absolutely hates playing that live.

Yeah they don't play it too often. I think they may have gotten a little frustrated at the constant requests for the song this side of the Atlantic. People, at the time, also tried to use the song to call Radiohead a grunge band

Yeah, that was my understanding as well. Though I've heard them play it live recently. It's a decent song, but all in all it's no where near my favorite of theirs.

If you watch the Radiohead documentary "Meeting People Is Easy" there's a clip of them playing the song live. Thom gives up singing halfway through the song and just points the mic towards the audience so they can sing it. You can see the boredom in his face while he does this.

Indeed. It comes nowhere near the brilliance of High and Dry, Fake Plastic Trees, Paranoid Android, Karma Police, or How to Disappear Completely.

Yeah, like I said: Pablo Honey was a rather dissapointing first album from an otherwise truly amazing band!

YES. Radiohead is my favorite band by a long shot. Although I definitely don't think Creep is their best song ever, Radiohead has always been years ahead of the curve.
I'm glad others recognize their genius.
The story about Creep is true. They just got tired of playing it because that's all anyone wanted them to play in the beginning... they always felt that they were deeper than that one song.

Radiohead is great. One of my all-time favorite bands.
-------------------- So familiar and overwhelmingly warm
This one, this form I hold now.
Embracing you, this reality here,
This one, this form I hold now, so
Wide eyed and hopeful.
Wide eyed and hopefully wild.
