It snowed here today 
Hopefully Fall is not over,
I'd really like to do a couple more hikes before the ground is covered...
The only good part about winter, is when it starts going away.

i don't think i'm ready for this winter..
i just moved from a really warm place where it never gets cold. and now where i am right now, i'm already freezing. i don't even own a jacket...i don't even really know how to pick one out.
i think i need to buy some boots too - anybody have any suggestions?

i get alot off outdoor stuff like boots and jackets at campmor.com. you can find good deals, but compare to other places, its not always a great deal.
i think for places that get mild-moderate winters a pair of outdoor day hiker boots would good.
for a jacket if it gets wet i would recommend something thats waterproof but breaths...gortex like stuff....and a fleece!!!!.....man ok if you have never had a fleece(/me has a fleece fetish) it feels wonderful...but fleece makes good light jackets or liners to go under a shell (usually gortex like)....personally i like a fleece that zips up the front but some people like the pullover kind.....hope that helps....try the boots on at a retailer 1st and then buy them online if cheaper.....there are many other possibilities this is just what works for me in the snow/winter.
personally i like to spend the extra cash at 1st and get The North Face and Patagonia brands in clothing. they cost more but last forever and they do what they say they will....like keep you warm...
with boots, if you even to decide to try hikers, Rachalie(sp), Mountain equipment CO-OP, North Face and Merriell have all been good brands for me. i would venture to say REI brand boots would prolly be a good product for the money but have never had a pair

DUDE! It just got cold at night around here....it prolly won't snow for at least a month or 3.
Sorry it's bummin ya out.
oDin: Yeah, fleece is the shit, specially as a fall pullover....winterstuff has to be zipup, and my Northface jaket has lasted me the last 5 years without appreciable damage.

Spend the money and be warm, don't skimp n freeze.
Specuially for ya AZ snowlovers.....that's gotta be a hell of a shock to your body...... Warmth to subzero in 6 hours.

Snow is the shit, I hope the Cascades gets DUMPED on this year, seeing as I'm going to be boarding them all season long.
Felix- like Odin said, Campmor is good, so is SierraTradingPost (I'm a link, click on me). As for what kind (shell+fleece, or insulated parka) it depends upon how damn cold its going to get where you are. Sorry you had to move from the islands, but if you get a chance, try snowboarding, you'll fucking love it, and it'll make the cold seem not as bad.
As for all you canoodians, well, sucks to be you, but at least you don't have Bush as your leader......for now.

Winter camping rocks, but the right gear is key! If you skimp at the store then you'll hate yourself when you get out there. I spent a few very miserable nights before I learned this lesson.
My buddy who just retired gave me his snowshoes (along with a bunch of other misc. shit) so I think I might do some snow camping this winter.
Oh, and BTW, its almost 90 degrees here today!

thanks for the tips guys. that's a pretty nice site too.
the temps here seem kind of wacky...one week i'm freezing and the next week it's just sort of comfortable.
skikid, i'm definitely gonna be trying some snowboarding!

You guys say you like snow. And I like snow too. But not when it's accompanied by -40 weather and a windchill making it feel like -50..Throw in a lack of mountains, and you've got a saskatchewan winter.
On the other hand, Summer was great.

highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s untill today, the morning was 60 and it slowly got colder untill mid afternoon it hit 50 and stayed untill night fall, my temp gauge reads 4C.
Atleast the trees are going to get purty and I won't have to mow my yard but one more time.

cus it actualy snowed at my house
my house is no more than 1 mile from the sf bay and only like 200 feet above see level

holy smokes, i NEVER woudl have thought youd get snow there. i am a way north of you at 300 meteres and we rarley get snow...maybe 1 foot a year on a good year. except 96.....
