Hurricane question
    #3085391 - 09/02/04 11:52 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

I heard that hurricanes and heavy storms can have a bad effect on the shroom crop. I also just got this cool temporary job out on a very large cattle ranch in central Florida, in which I will be living there on the site for a couple of months. I know its got some good fields too because I was just there last Sat. and we found a good amount of cubensis.
Now it looks like I wont be able to get back to the ranch to start working or anything until after the hurricane, and so I am worried what it will mean for the shrooms out there.
I am not very experienced in hunting and I'm also not from Florida, so could I get some expert opinions about the likely shroom forcast after the storm?  Thanks and peace.

you'll need to wait several days after the storm until the shroomies come up. this is because everything will be saturated included the mycelial network within all the cowpies. from my experience in the same area a heavy rain impedes growth for at least 3-5 days.

Thanks for the reply. So I am guessing that I am still going to be having a shroomy good on the ranch eh?
By the way.....is it pretty common to find cubes all year round in Florida?

Also if anyone ever wants to do some hunting on a HUGE 300,000 acre cattle ranch which is one of the largest in the country, let me know.

I don't know what you mean by "pretty common" - I do know that cubes can be found every month of the year, however there is a specific season when they can be found more abundantly.

Peace & Light, kenjaman

this is just a bit OT... i specifically timed a recent shiitake log soaking to coincide with the impending wet weather East TN should be receiving from Frances.

WTF is going on?!?! It's a typical summer day here, not a cloud in the sky! My shiitakes are coming out all puny and shriveled... as would be expected for weather like this. Why the hell is it not raining like crazy?

that wasn't a rhetorical question.

granted, it's more of a G&M issue but weather definitely has bearing on hunting.

hell, even when atlantic hurricanes don't touch land my area gets nailed with heavy rains. what gives?
