Hmmm...Aurora lists Cordyceps militaris as the Caterpillar Fungus with unknown as to its edibility.
But you know how it is with mushroom names!

Anyone have insect-Cordyceps cultures for sale or trade? I'm surprised we haven't seen pics of terrariums with fruiting caterpillars, how cool would that be.
Also, will sinensis parasitize any insect given enough inoculation? Walking sticks?? I think it was at the shroomery someone said they got live crickets to colonize.
Walking sticks would be the best. . .they breed so damn fast; at least one species can reproduce by parthenogenesis--basically a female can start giving birth w/o fertilization.
I read a paper awhile ago where a normal housefly, still alive and flying around, had small visible Cordyceps strands coming out of its head. I wish I remember if that was a sinensis or not.
Anyway, I think there could be some cool setups with this guy.

I used to have a culture of Cordyceps sinensis. I will look in the fridge...
Otherwise I think BiO tried growing them on sterilised cockroaches, but I am not sure if he ever fruited them.

I find the idea of a fungus eating me alive very shivery...ever seen that X-files where the fruit of a fungus that lives in people's lungs bursts out their throats and infects everyone arround them? Awfully gross.
