Dragnet could round up 26 drug dealers
The Evening Times
ATHENS TOWNSHIP -- Pennsylvania Attorney General Jerry Pappert and Bradford County District Attorney Stephen G. Downs will announce today that more than 50 Bureau of Narcotics Investigation agents, Bradford County Drug Task Force officers, sheriff's deputies and Pennsylvania State Police troopers are in the process of capturing as many as 26 suspected drug dealers in Bradford County.
Today's arrests, to be announced in a press conference today at the Athens Township Police Department at 11 a.m., are the result of a nearly one-year investigation, known as "Operation Crankshaft." The investigation delved into illegal drug trafficking in the northern Bradford County region, Pappert said in a news release obtained by the Times this morning.
Among the drugs involved in this investigation are methamphetamine, crack cocaine, marijuana, the prescription pain killer oxycondone and illegal hallucingenic mushrooms, Pappert noted.
The defendants are scheduled to be arraigned today before District Justice Timothy Clark of Towanda, who will be filling in for District Justice Michael Shaw of Athens Township.
