I don't know if this was addressed since I didn't read the entire thread...but the principal at my girls's high school told us that the admins at h.s. across the US are obligated to give the gov't the names and addresses of their students. This is so that the armed forces can contact them about career opportunities. All we (parents) have to do to stop this is to write the principal a letter telling them we don't want our kids names released.

The last demonstration i went to boasted over 200,000 yet figures arround 60,000 where reported on the news  .
I am in open oposition to this series of criminal actions against largely innocent people. It is rediculous to innitiate a war with a country's common people because they are too scared not to openly oppose the antiamerican ranks among them or to imprison them unlawfuly or even lawfuly because they might have gone to grammar school with or once agreed with verbaly in a bar a person who is now a terrorist [yeah, i'm aware of the use of rhetorical exageration]. It is wrong to innitiate a war on an entire country because there are factions of antiamerican sentiment willing to engage in warfare if it is not supported by a government ready to innitiate war with us aswell.
The Vietnam war taught us that drafted soldiers are inferior in performance to those who want to serve willingly and can be screened for leadership skills. If we are to be at war on a scale similar to our current situation the enlistment numbers from the last few years should be sufficient anyway. If a storm is brewing grand enough to neccesitate a full scale draft policy it can not be justified by a mere peacekeeping policy argument.
I do not support the actions of a group of soldiers, supposedly under the leash of our military's conventions on the humane treatment of both combatant and non-combatant prisoners, who commit such acts as those reported from the Abu Ghraib prison. I am unconcerned as to wether the treatment was encouraged, suggested or simply allowed by the sommanding officers of the gaurds, no matter how far up the chain; it was allowed to heppen and all parties bear a share of responsibility. Sadly, I expect we shall continue to hear of worse [from all sides] as/if the conflicts escalate and large numbers of conbatant prisoners are taken.
I will not abandon my country because it's current action's or policies are unsound. I will not fight a war I do not support and I do not support the actions of President Bush since the terrorist attacks of 09/11 but I would not leave this nation to escape the challenge of setting things right. This nation can be salvaged if the volumes of indeviduals with aversions to the status quo speak thier minds through the established channels and do not cease to be vocal and public about thier views. This country belongs to all of it's citizens and it is not only the right of each citezen to be active in it's fate it is a responsibility.
