If you havn't, you have to check out their album Launchpad... it's their debut album but they have been a touring jam band for quite some time now. I caught them last October and was simply blown away.
Their musak can best be described as funktronic rock. It's definately taking the jam scene to new dimensions.
I specially like the songs The Elevator, and 7 Minutes to Radio Darkness, but really, all of their stuff is amazing.
PS- check them out live if you get a chance!

They are the boyband of jambands.
They are riding on the wave of what the disco biscuits created, and dumbing it down for your average jamband fan. The reason they are so big is because of their massive pocketbook, management team, and the connections they have to get 'popular' members of larger bands to sit-in with them.
If you want the real deal, listen to the disco biscuits.

I've seen them live, I can't say I would have anything positive to say about them, I don't really care for what they do, it can be cool for a bit but tires quickly.
don't take this to serious, I'd have to agree with the guy above. I don't care for the DB that much either though.

Yeah I've heard the Disco Biscuits, but they aren't touring much right now.
I'm more interested in bands that are actually taking it out there and playing consistently (right now), like STS9, Galactic, Keller, etc...
But hey, if you want to enlighten my mind with some better bands that are currently on tour, I will check them out if they come 'round here. JamBase is my friend.

Hmm... I guess you could, but OT always seemed uber-original to me... damn nice band, in my opinion.
But if you want a good jam-band that is touring nowadays, I would say Medeski Martin and Wood take the cake.

Yeah they were at bonnaroo last year but see much of them, I just got 9-14-02 and it's really good. I have their two live Mountain Tracks also, I really really enjoy these boys. As long as you can find high quality recordings I hear they are pretty consistant. I know they don't have the biggest catalogue so many shows are rather similar, again this is just what I've heard.

I've seen them once. It got kind of boring. There are a lot of those bands lately of jam meets electronica and many of these bands sound very much the same. I would say Sound Tribe Sector 9 blows Particle out of the water. The New Deal is great also. Both those bands keep my interest and get me moving. Disco Biscuits are pretty good and I see them when they come to town but I can never get too excited about them. But yeah I wouldn't really recommend Particle. Check out some New Deal though you'll be glad you did.

I'll second Adom's recommendation of Umphrey's. I've been to a number of their gigs and downloaded a few more.... good stuff going on. Check em out if they come by your local venue.

Particles an interesting band...the guitar player has really bad arrogant energy in my opinion but the keyboard player has a pretty good energy so it's a weird conflict, but i think the guitar player lowers the overall energy of the band too much...i liked them the first time i heard them, but each subsequent time i've liked them a little less. Around here people compare them to sound tribe sector 9, but I think sound tribe is a FAR greater band and a much different sound and feel. Now Sound Tribe Sector 9 is a band with good energy.....and yeah Adom is right about Yonder Mountain String Band....they kick the proverbial ass.
