I like to have a good improv artist come up with a good instrumental line, but not polish it, and then just play that when the band gets together. I sing something that makes me fell he same way the music does. I can't sing, so the band hates it, but then the singer takes what I said and polishes it himself. I jus can't feel the song when I'm scribbleing lines on paper. before and after practice I just sit down, Smoke some weed, and try to figure out why I am the way I am. Gives me no psychological info, but it frees up my creative mind to come up with awesome lyrics through blinding flashes of the obvious. Some of the best songs just say the obvious in an artful way, and weed helps you lower the inhibitions about that sort of thing. (e.g. highway to hell, war pigs, time, another brick in the wall, etc.)
