Got it right here actually, 24 August 2002 . Apparently the Y chromosome has lost 1500 genes in 300 million years and now only has 40 left, and is expected to disappear in 5-10 million years

yeah...I just came across an article that mentioned something along those lines too:
the male brain VS the female brain (and other such crap)
and I guess as long as I'm at it I'll post a couple more I've recently stumbled across:
pysical make-up differences (in regards to muscles and what have you)
and a long ass interview with someone that supposively knows what he's talking about
I'll see what else I can come across (actually I probably won't...but you know how that goes)

Very well said Spiffy, I agree. I think there are generalized differences between men & women, but it's the expectations that negative.

Maybe you don't, but I don't think you can speak for all feminists. There are plenty of man-haters out there.
Quote:
We want to be paid the same amount for the same job.
I agree. However, one major cause of the "wage gap" is the simple fact that women have children, and therefore have to compromise the amount of work they do to take care of them.
Quote:
We want the right to walk down the street without fear for our lives/safety.
Then get a gun.
Quote:
We want our daughters to grow up believing they can be anything they want and not eventually hit a glass celing.
I'm still on the fence over the whole "glass ceiling" thing. It could be real, but there may be something else involved. If you got a line of CEO's and other business people to drop their pants and present their asses for kissing in order for people to become more powerful, I don't think many women would take up that offer, whereas a healthy 30% of men would probably be willing to do it.
Quote:
We want to be taken seriously and respected for our brains and our ablilities....not how big our tits are/ how skinny our waist is.
I respect woment who truly are intelligent. Unfortunately, IME, they are few and far between. Now, before you go and call me a mysoginistic pig for that comment, I'd like to point out that it's the same for guys. And basically money and power are for guys what looks are to girls, except that guys usually don't complain about being respected for their money. Intelligence should be respected in both sexes, but I'm not going to respect girls for their intelligence if they don't have it.
Quote:
I think that most men have the wrong idea about feminism....even a lot of women don't understand what it is about. There are several different types of feminists...the ones that want power are called "Radical feminists". They constitute a very small minority of the movement, however, they are the most outspoken group. I do not agree with most of their ideas.
Good. Then we agree on something.
Quote:
Most feminists are simply looking for social change...and feminism is not just about women's rights but human rights. Most feminist organizations are very active politically in several areas. We are looking to end the war, promote a healthier enviroment for children, make the world a friendlier place for ALL people, etc.
Good. So am I.
Quote:
We are certainly not out to take over or try to gain power over men. We just want our voices heard. We want to hold equal weight in society.
As much as I'd like to see this, I just don't see it happening. In my Cultural Anthropology class, I learned about how patriarchy is more or less universal, but to various degrees. The thing is, in order to attain equal status with men, a woman often has to sacrifice her reproductive role, or at least give it less attention.
Quote:
I agree that the sexes are not the same...men and women are very different both physically and emotionally, however, where men are weak, we are strong and where we are weak, men are strong.
Quote:
If we worked together, the world would be a far more peaceful place. Both sexes have equal value and ability and what most feminists are looking for is a recognition of that.
Explain how we're not working together.

yes, men may die out. It is one (highly unlikely) possibility of many possibilities. There are a few specieis of animals that this has happened to, although i cant think of them now.
BTW women can reproduce. But they can only create other women (2 X chromosomes). This can be done only in an extremely rare occurence called "egg fusion", in which two eggs somehow fuse together and form a whole zygote (not sure if thats the right word).
Also, as far as XX chromosomes being intrinsically superior... I have read this research but I have also read research that the XY is superior because it can repair itself or something...
Oh yeah, and a woman doesnt have to be a "radical feminist" to want superior rights to men. Many women who are in no way involved with the feminist movement express this desire in the way they treat men like objects, controlling them like pawns on a chessboard, and carrying them around in their pockets like so many nickels and dimes.

It was something about the chance of two x chromosones binding than an x and a y was more probable
If that was true, females would be 3x as likely as males would be. Since that is not the case...I don't think it can be true. The male/female percentage is fairly close to 50% with females being slightly more likely than males.
I heard once that all vertebrate animals are inherently female and that there is a specific point during development where sex is determined.

Chaos was here first... order is just a temporary attempt to classify that natural chaos, and in the end chaos will reign supreme.
Or so Jesus once said.

Chaos..Order... it's all the same thing from the same source from the same time.
They exist simultaneously and balance each other.
After all the universe is just organized chaos, a neverending cycle of creation and destruction...heh..and evolution..the balancing factor

Krishna, actually that article in a "Vi Menn" magazine, in a science section in that magazine, the edition came out like a month ago or something... you might be ab le to find it on the net, but I could scan the atricle and post it when i get my scanner to work...
Trendal, you're saying so you'rself that females are slightly more than males, but this small percentage differance will grow as Zeta said, "Apparently the Y chromosome has lost 1500 genes in 300 million years and now only has 40 left, and is expected to disappear in 5-10 million years"... Thats how it works, so we will die out slowly and the last few guys on earth will truly be lucky.... damn...
