Actually the stems on those fruits are heavily covered with mycelium. Nutrients in the substrate is being used to regenerate mycal tissue and not sustain fruit body growth, which could explain the gaps in his casing. I think the standard casing teks would yield better and more fruits. Maybe he?s thinking the thinner the cake the faster the incubation time???

this is my friends first time growing. he has a couple of partly colonized (but quite small cakes).. after they finish colonizing (with no mold hopefully), would you guys suggest this tek?

I was just thinking...and if you add a bit more compost to the cake in the casserole?..would there be better results?..or is the vermiculite just enough...?
