Agar does not solidify when PH is dropped !

I tried to adjust the PH of some DFA agar by adding water that was soaked with peat moss. It had a PH at about 4-5. After adding the water to the dry agar/dogfood mixture the PH was up again at about 6. But the strange thing is that the agar did not solidify properly after PCing. I have tried the same with adding some citric acid to the agar and the agar did not solidify at all after PCing. It just stayed liquid as before. Does somebody with some chemical knowledge have an explanation for that ?

No, the same amount as always. Just the PH was different.

Have to add more agar. Same with trying to make edible jellies with acidic fruits (well, you could probably have guessed that after the citric acid experiment)...
Sorry I've no chemical explanation but just wanted to say that this is well known...

Ok, at least a solution -> I will try to add more agar the next time.

Why do you want such a low pH?
Most species like a pH between 6 and 7.

This autumn I have found some Hypholoma capnoides and I made some prints of them. When I germinated the spores on PDYA they did very well in the beginning, but after some time growth stopped on agar and they started to die. I have read that this species likes rotten softwood best and I thought that this substrate must have a lot of humic acid which has a PH very close to peat moss I guessed. So I thought maybe this species likes a very low PH and that's why it does not grow very well on normal PDYA. And it seems to grow better on that kind of agar at least till now. I have also tried out DFA and it grows a little bit better on that.

Actually that was the first I was trying out, but without result.
I still believe that it has got something to do with the PH or with some nutrients, since the formula for the agar as shown in Anno's link adds some peptone and adjusts the agar to 5.6 which is quite low.
