well i just got back from a camping trip up in humboldt county.
allong with many finds, i found reishi {ganoderma lucidum, or verry close], chicken of the woods, aka the sulphur shelf {Laetiporus sulphureus], Lactarius deliciua [not collected, as every single specimen found was rotted] and Amanita muscaria, both the muscaria and flavivolvata varieties. i also found many jack o lanterns. i found these after a friend of mine went for a night walk and started seeing strange glowing on the ground after he had been in the woods for about an hour and a half. i am really blown away by the myco-diversity of the area this time of year.
i only have these two pics for the moment, but i'll see waht i can get off of the digital camera when i can.
i plan to clone the chicken of the woods and the reishi.
the chicken of the woods made a verry good pasta wich fed 5 people and i have plenty left over. i collected only the outer edges of the plates, trying to keep them on the stump to recover so someone else will be able to find them.

hey, what dates were you up there? Curious to know if I will be too late!
I'm On the central coast, heading north for edible picking mid december.I'm Going right around Sea Ranch, and close to Salt Point State Park. I'm surpirsed there was already that many mushrooms this early..!! I'm usually able to find some boletus edulis (my personal favorite mushroom) around pine in your area, look closely under thick pine duft within 2000 ft. of the coast... must be very damp and quite thick, 1ft of pine duft is excellent edulis territory. espicially around fallen logs that have built some sort of Tee-Pees with pine and old wood.
Went to College of the Redwoods one year, my first year of hunting actually, found a crapload of those lactarious delicious and mistakenly thought they were bluing  !
Not really common to find many blue  mushrooms in California. Anrgy seems to have the touch, however. ;p

alright, sorry for the shamless self bump; but, i have the G. lucidum and L. sulphureus on 2 and 3 plates of peroxidated PDA respectively.
i'll start grow logs for both of them in the proper forum once i have pure cultures established.
