dunk and roll?

I currently have 10 jars going that are about half way colonized. I have read a lot about a method of casing in which you dunk the cake in water and then roll it in vermiculite. is this effective (if so explain the tek a little bit)?? or should I play it safe and just place the finished jars in my aquarium. thanks a ton.

While KISS isn't a bad idea for the first grow, fully colonized cakes should be able to stand dunking and rolling under most conditions. The purpose of dunking and rolling is to rehydrate the cakes. Dunking restores water that was spent during colonization, and rolling in vermiculite provides another source of moisture for the fruiting mushrooms. These measures should ensure that your cakes have all the water they need to produce big, healthy mushrooms.

Here's a good link about the dunk and roll. Be sure to check Magash's link inside this thread.

Grower is right. You should keep it simple the first time but dunking and rolling isn't difficult. Just follow the tek... if you can make pf jars, you can dunk and roll.
Since you have 10 jars, You aren't risking too much by dunking and rolling your cakes. Even if you did contaminate a few cakes, your yield will still be higher than without the dunk and roll.
My friend, Don Quixote, actually kisses his jars. He's been known to hug them too.

i recommend dunking in a50/50 mix of verm and coco that is wetted, stirred thoroughly, nuked, then used. Ideallly you want to get the mixture just moist, then nuke it until it's damn near dry. This stuf clings really good to cakes, and it's had some contam control executed over it.

Yeah. Dunk and roll. You can't afford not to.
