 ? adjusting pete-moss like you would rock wool?

I was sitting around thinking of another way to adjust the PH of pete-moss (for castings or even for a soilless potting mix) without using lime. I started think about how you adjust/condition rock wool by soaking it for 12-24 hours in water with a PH 5.0-5.5, so couldn't you soak pete-moss the same way but with water of a PH of around 8-9 or ever 10?
Would this work, or wouldn't it work?
I might get around to trying this on a few small casing to see how it works (if it will work) in the next few weeks.

Peat moss is acidic and acidity will vary with brand.
However, to give you an idea, in the past I've done some ph checks on various things my results were as follows:
Tap water softened hard water ph = 8 - 8.2
120ml Tap + 25g Peat ph = 4.4 - 4.5
120ml Tap + 25g Coir ph = 4.8
In one case I found that 8g of pickling lime would bring 1 block of animal bedding coir hydrated with 4.8 liters of tap water to ph = 6.85
Of course, initial water, coir, and peat ph values are all going to vary significantly from brand to brand. The best method I've found is to hydrate a smal batch using a set amounts. Perpare them in plastic bags, after a few mins cut out the corner of the bag and squeeze a sample of the water into a shot glass. For the most accurate results test the samples using a calibrated ph meter.
