Nope. The answer to that is this:

wet vermiculite holds moisture really well...my guess is that it acts as a reservoir that feeds the mycelium around it...

well let's make a more thorough explanation so everyone wins...

wet vermiculite holds moisture really well...it acts as a reservoir that feeds the mycelium around it...creating more pinning points...increasing the the surface area used for growth...

I read in a few other posts that it increases surface area...I think it is probably both. However I thought just coating something in something couldn't increase surface area could it?
