florida west coast shroom identification
    #17888044 - 03/01/13 06:56 PM (11 years, 1 month ago)

Hi shroomery, forgive me as i am a brannoob at mushrooms, it is march 1st as you all may know and here on the mid northernish west coast of florida it is still going down past 32 degrees every night, and i found these by a river running through my town. Im wondering if these little guys are psilocybin active, poisonous, or just a little edible non psychoactive edible

they are seen growing together and alone

Habitat:-------------------------------------------

found growing along side river in steinhatchee, florida. west coast.
in clusters, and alone.

Gills:---------------------------------------------

brown, has gills

Stem:----------------------------------------------

relatively short, skinny in diameter, white-tan, solid, thin.

Cap:-----------------------------------------------

wide for size, brown center to tanish color, not slimy, somewhat spherical, flat and rownded found.

Spore print color:---------------------------------
brown

Bruising:------------------------------------------

Color that the mushroom bruise, if they bruise at all, its a light brown/tan bruise. no pics as there isnt really a blue or purple or green bruise...

thanks for any help with identifying these little shrooms guys.

These are not all the same mushroom. Some appear to be a Psathyrella species, some might be Cortinarius (orange gilled ones).

None of them contain psilocybin or anything else that's psychoactive.

Do tons of research on the species listed for your area. Your never going to have any luck unless you do alot of research. I made a field guide for myself to take with me on hunts.

In Florida your best bet is Psilocybe Cubensis but you'll have to wait until the weather gets warmer.

Studying the dates and habitats of these observations of Gymnopilus (not all of which are active), Psilocybe (all of which are active) and Panaeolus cyanescens from Florida will help give you an idea of where to hunt. http://mushroomobserver.org/observer/advanced_search?_js=on&_new=true&q=16Q8q

Joust put together this awesome guide that has everything you need to start hunting. http://www.shroomery.org/12525/Psilocybin-Mushrooms

Time to study up. Don't eat anything without first having a knowledgable expert identify it for you.

I've been looking for an updated list, I heard one was out there.
Although I would give Psilocybe Semilanceata 3*** for N.Y. as I bet I could find Conocybe Cyanopus before I could find Libs here.
I've been trying to prove Semilanceata exist in upstate N.Y. for years to no avail.

My list is the most up to date list out there. I will consider changing the rarity for that species, "ill talk to my hebrews in NYC".
