World’s biggest McDonald’s restaurant is coming to the London Olympics

Forget about supersizing some fries, how about supersizing an entire McDonald’s. The fast-food giant has jumped on the pop-up restaurant bandwagon for the 2012 Olympics by building a flagship restaurant of world record breaking size in east London. The two-story restaurant, which is next to the Olympic Stadium, will be its biggest and busiest in the world, seating 1,500 diners and serving up to 14,000 people a day. According to the Daily Mail, the 3,000 sq. ft. the building, which features recycled timber, will be dismantled after six weeks. The materials and most of the furniture and fittings will be reused in other McDonald’s restaurants after the games. The restaurant will have special waste-sorting facilities will ensure that most garbage gets recycled, executives said. The restaurant, and three other outlets at the Olympics venue, will be staffed by 2,000 McDonald's best employees. The fast-food giant is a top Olympics sponsor with exclusive rights to sell branded food products inside the venue. The company says that all the beef will come from British farms, and the chocolate used in muffins will be fair-trade. But British doctors have complained that the food choices at the Olympics restaurant are largely identical to McDonald’s fare around the world — Big Macs, milkshakes, fries and chicken nuggets. The only addition to the menu is iced fruit smoothies, which haven’t yet been introduced in other British McDonald’s.

Brilliant move on McDonald's part. They just made a McDonald's restaurant a tourist destination... at the fucking Summer Olympics! Best of all, they can build this monstrosity, use it for a month, then tear it down and recycle the parts into other McDonald's so the long-term operating costs won't kill them. The fact that they're making it as eco-friendly as possible is a good touch.

It's so hypocritical that Phelps loses sponsors for smoking weed, a substance linked to curing and preventing cancer, while a fast food giant responsible for heart problems and type 2 diabetes sponsors the games and features athletes in their commercials.

It's never been linked to lung cancer and maybe McDonalds doesn't cause people's health problems but eating Big Macs will kill you faster than smoking weed. Why are they being advertised at an event that represents the pinnacle of fitness?

I don't think M'D is the problem I think it's the amount people eat and their lack of exercise. Weed might not cause cancer but doesn't mean it's not bad for your lungs.

Companies are quick to separate themselves from the addictions caused by their products.
All they have to say is: ''We do not force people to eat here everyday. The people are free to eat what they want.''
The key word free, guarantees you will convince americans of just about anything.
They'll think: Its not the companies fault, it ain't my fault, so there is no problem!

It's not bad for your lungs, the carcinogens created by combustion when you SMOKE is bad for your lungs. Thc though is fantastic for asthmatic patients though, I should know I.am an asthmatic.

Fat people only have themselves to blame for being fat....
IF you think vaping or eating weed is good for your asthma then congratulation esp if you don't do it enough to start showing.

http://www.wcnc.com/news/health/Biggest-Mac-McDonalds-at-Olympics-is-the-biggest--160362595.html
LONDON (AP) -- The McDonald's at the London Olympic Park is supersized - but not, its critics say, super-healthy. The fast-food giant, a top Olympics sponsor with exclusive rights to sell branded food products inside the venue, said Monday its two-story restaurant at the games will be its biggest and busiest in the world, seating 1,500 diners and serving up to 14,000 people a day. But despite complaints by British doctors, the food choices at the Olympics are largely identical to McDonald's fare around the world - Big Macs, milkshakes, fries and chicken nuggets. The only addition to the menu is iced fruit smoothies, which haven't yet been introduced in other British McDonald's. The Academy of Royal Medical Colleges recently said that having McDonald's sponsor the Olympics sends the wrong message - not least in Britain, which is battling increasing obesity. The group also criticized London Olympic organizers for accepting sponsorships from Coca-Cola and brewer Heineken, the official drinks sellers at the games. McDonald's says it is offering its menu mainstays of burgers and fries, alongside healthier options because people enjoy the familiarity. It also prints out calorie information per item on its menu boards. "We do offer a breadth of menu," said Jill McDonald, chief executive at McDonald's UK. "You can see on the menu here we have grilled chicken wraps, we have salads, fruit smoothies as well as the more indulgent recipes that people know and love." McDonald's will bring in 2,000 of its best staffers to run four outlets at the Olympics venue: the vast flagship, another restaurant for spectators, one in the Athletes' Village and a fourth in the Media Center. All will be dismantled after the games end, and executives stressed the efforts to which designers have gone to ensure that the restaurants conform to Olympic organizers' sustainability ambitions. Three-quarters of the furniture and fittings at the flagship are set to be reused in other McDonald's restaurants after the games, and special waste-sorting facilities will ensure that most garbage gets recycled, executives said. All the beef will come from British farms, and the chocolate used in muffins will be fair-trade. McDonald's has been an official Olympics sponsor since 1976, and said it would be using its expertise to provide "high-quality British food" at the games.

Mcdonalds stopped using Ammonium Hydroxide in their meat after a newspaper article came out this year.
(NEWSER) – A number of casual, relatively unscientific experiments with McDonald’s food have turned up a disturbing discovery: The food seemingly never decays. A Happy Meal still looks kinda appetizing after 143 days on a shelf; a 12-year-old hamburger looks relatively similar to a new one; one burger traveled around the country in a woman’s purse for more than four years. But it turns out it’s not—as widely theorized—chemicals and preservatives that are to blame for McDonald’s immortal food. An expert tells Salon that fat is the real culprit: Both McD’s fries and burgers are very high in fat (50% of the calories in the fries are fat, and as much as 54% for the burgers), which means they’re low in moisture, which means there’s less room for mold to grow. (All that salt—nature's great preservative—on the fries doesn’t hurt either.) The buns contain preservatives, but no more than what you’d find in supermarket white bread. So if you’re looking to avoid McDonald’s, do it to avoid the fat and the salt—not the chemicals.
Still gross to me.

lol.
it takes energy to erect the building, loads of polluting diesel, it requires energy to take the building down in 6 weeks, the same sort of energy, then you factor in the energy required to make things 'green' such as trash separators, energy consumed by the laborers in order to get to work and build the structure, get back to work and disassemble it, energy to sort the parts, energy to transport the parts to other locations. it would require far less energy to erect the building and leave it standing for 50 years
there's nothing 'green' here folks, just another catchy slogan
