Some questions about meditation?

I am kind of interested in meditation for its therapeutic benefits but I had some questions before I did it.
First, I have tried meditating a few times before in my life but it always seems like I just can't. I'm really edgy and stressed a lot of the time and seem to have a complete inability to loosen up and let go. I also have an exceptional lack of mental concentration and focus. So I feel like in order to focus (which one is supposed to when meditating) I have to "tighten up", and so I'm not relaxed or de-stressed anymore.
I also am kind of unable to just be in the here and now. I'm always mentally in another place. So I can't just seem to block out that subconscious voice in my head (I'm not crazy, it's not a literal voice but you know what I mean) and I'm always thinking about something.
I can't just let my mind go blank. And even if I could, it would seem like letting my mind go blank would be contradictory to mental focus.
Any advice on how to overcome these problems?
Also can I meditate laying down on my bed?
As for your own experiences, has anyone here ever had CEV's while meditating, or entered another world? Astral Projection or something like that?

You can meditate in ten billion different ways.
You can't completely make your mind go blank, that's impossible. The human brain generates like 500 trillion thoughts a second or some shit.
A better idea is just to try and find something easy to focus on, like your breathing. Or a candle. Just one simple thing. But seriously, concentrating on your breathing is important.
Don't get mad if you get distracted. Practice makes perfect.
Think of your random thoughts like clouds in the sky. You are just an observer. You can watch them float by. Just try not to interact with them.
But if you do it's not the end of the world.
There's not really any "wrong" way to meditate. If you are trying, you are doing.
And the more you do it, the easier it gets.
You are basically just practicing the art of concentration. You can take it in any direction.
Yes I have had crazy CEVs and trance like states from deep meditation. Astral projection is something else entirely although they both use similar techniques for getting there.
You don't need to read a book or study or learn from a guru to be able to meditate. Your body knows how to do it naturally. You just have to remember.

I just tried to meditate for a couple of minutes in my room but the air conditioner is making too much noise.
Also whenever I try to concentrate, I get a "headache" of sorts and feel really stressed out.
Not trying to bitch about my problems or anything but that's probably not normal, and possibly indicative of a huge attention deficit problem.
Either way I hope that won't hinder my ability to meditate.

That is quite natural. To many people, meditation seems like almost an impossible task. It's not really at all, that's just a limitation you put on yourself. Don't try so hard, maybe you won't get a headache. The point is to relax the muscles in your body. Breathe. Deep, slow. Rhythmic breaths. Into the belly. Your stomach should rise more than your chest when you inhale. But seriously the deep breathing is the number one key to relaxing, at least in my experience. Don't believe me? Ever see when someone goes into hysteria, what do they do? They aren't breathing deep and slow that's for sure. More likely they are breathing extremely quick, shallow breaths. Hyperventilating themselves.
Especially if you are new to it, you will be distracted by anything and everything. It's only natural, especially in this ADD, overstimulated society we live in. Just don't stress yourself out over it. That's the opposite of the point.

actually when i meditate i tend to do the opposite. focus on nothing (well as best as humanly possible) and let my surroundings come into notice through pure objectivity rather than focusing on them. for me meditation is doing simply nothing. but keeping an alertness while doing it. otherwise you just doze off and fall asleep and your mind starts thinking of random things by itself. but i go for that blank slate. 20 minutes of that and i'm back feeling fresh and with a rejuvinated sense of confidence
also, some people say to breath deep but the way i learned was to breath shallow until you can hardly feel your breath. sometimes breathing deep is associated with negative vibes because it's what we try to do in stressful situations (or sometimes i just find the motion and sound distracting, though i will take a few deep breaths at the very end). but that's just how i do it. there's no "real" way to meditate.

I actually started my blog partly because of the last thread I responded to on meditation. The user and I have since kept up through PM, and he really enjoyed all my blog had to offer.
So I'm telling you now, this isnt a plug for it I dont care if you never visit it again. But I based the blog around an extremely simple, usable meditation technique I call One Breath Meditation, and so didnt really feele the need to reiterate it again.
There is an inherent challenge involved with trying to meditate for a certain amount of time or amount of breaths. It takes your mind away from the meditation itself.
If it doesnt seem like much, let me tell you, that's the wrong attitude for meditation. It will be a long endeavour where somedays even years later you wont feel like you've 'arrived' or it's doing anything. You have never just 'arrived' anywhere in life, and meditation practice is the same way. It's about the small steps you take throughout your life in order to invite the opportunity for it.
You and really no more induce meditation than you can sleep. You can only set the stage, and hope it visits you, but there are things you can do to increase the chances of it's visit.
This is one of those techniques that you can dedicate time to by itself, or just do it when you're driving, showering, working, jerking your dick off, taking acid, and taking shits.
That remains the most popular post on the blog, but this is another popular one if you're looking for more, Expansion Meditation.
Honestly, much of how I learned to meditate years ago was taking very large doses of Azurescens and being so unbelievable fucking out of this world it that the easiest thing to do was just sit, breath, and be. thinking was weird enough, but THINKING ABOUT THINKING was impossible, so I learned to just stop trying and just be. I dont ever set a timer or anything when I sit, but I often know that when I no longer even want to get up because I just 'get' how to be again, thats when I'm done meditating. When have you last had a heroic dose?
Anyways good luck man

Trying to focus on nothing is good, and pretty much the same thing, but I don't recommend that to most people because it seems more realistic to just focus on one simple thing, and they often think if they aren't focusing on nothing then they are somehow failing at it. But yeah, there's no right or "wrong" way to meditate really. Just a general set of lines some people like to follow. But there is literally thousands of forms and ways you can meditate.

Just let the shit come up. Listen to the air conditioner. Sit with your thoughts, dont think about nothing, do you see how dumb that is? Here, DONT think of a lemon. See, now in order to even process that command, you HAVE to think of a lemon. Dont get into some metaphyscial masterbation, mind knots. just be.
Everything is part of it. If everything is Truth or Buddhahood, then even illusion is thurth and buddhahood.
You already know how to meditation, and you probably do it all the time, but dont realise it. Do you play a musical instrument at all? whenever you're zoning out and playing, losing track of linear time, you're in trance, you're meditating. You already do it, you just dont notice.
Mostly it happens during sleep

pretty much this. Have very high suspicions for people who tell you what you're doing isnt meditation. If they want to sell you something, fuck them with a thousand suns, they're fraud. Unless they're doing a specific form and you actually do need some kind of certification or whatever to teach it, and you dont have certification or whatever, but you know.
Use your best judgement, and breath. Try the one breath thing, and then dont even think of meditation till tomorrow

Hmm the lemon analogy is a good way to put it
Thanks guys, I will try this again. And I will have patience if I don't get it right the first time.
I will prioritize relaxation over concentration as well.
If I work it into a daily habit I might improve past these things.

Even if you just set aside 5-10 minutes a day to do it, that's enough.

Yeah I just have so much shit to do everyday that I often forget. That's why the couple times I tried to start a meditation habit it ended quickly.
I hate having a busy lifestyle. But I feel it almost makes meditation a necessity so I can cope with the stress.

A lot of people with super busy lifestyles just recommend meditating at the end of your day, before bed... 5-10 minutes should be enough to let you relax and unwind a little and make it easier to sleep. It's can also be helpful right after you wake up. To go about your day a little more clear minded

try the one breath thing, it's designed to get around stopping practicing.
