************This thread is for people who ENJOYED Prometheus and woud like to discuss the fictional universe of 'Alien'. If you want to bitch about the movie do it elsewhere.*********
That said, I personally love the 'Alien' universe and I thoroughly enjoyed Prometheus.
Prometheus had me guessing quite a bit, it wasn't predictable like most movies and it's great. I really like how they play with the primordial soup idea. The black goo is the primordial soup, or a modified version of it. It's capable of remaking DNA and it has the potential for many outcomes. A lot of people are upset saying "the movie left too many questions." Actually, it answered most of them. Remember when the black guy shared his idea that the planet was a storage for a large super weapon, and the black goo is the super weapon.
The question Prometheus leaves us with is: why were the ancient civilizations drawing the constellation that contained the super weapon? Why did the 'engineers' want to bring it to Earth?
From nearly the beginning Ridley planned for a sequel and we will get our questions answered! It's believed that the second movie will be named "Paradise," because it is where the creators of humanity reside.
A few more things*
The new protagonist, Elizabeth Shaw, is spectacular. She is everything I loved in Ripley and more.
She is curious, brave, intelligent, strong, and independent; did I forget to mention sexy?
The action scenes in Prometheus were glorious! I'm so happy that it was rated R, which allowed the movie to be realistic and visceral with its gore. The surgical removal scene was amazing, it showed her getting cut open and pull the parasite out; unlike cheaper movies that would have just showed her making uncomfortable face expressions.
*fun fact: The stupid guys with suits and ties at Fox were considering to make the Alien prequels PG-13. Because AVP1 did really good while being rated PG-13, but AVP2 did horrible while being rated R. They could not be more incorrect, AVP1 had a great story and screenplay, AVP2 failed at everything.
The atmosphere of the movie couldn't have been more spot on. It was reminiscent of the original Alien films, but was also fresh.
The only problem I had with the movie other than the usual miniscule movie errors was after the surgical scene, it felt like they were really nonchalant about the fact she was just infected and surgically removed a fucking alien from here stomach! It needed an extra scene to recognize the incident.
TL;DR
Prometheus is an amazing film and it delivers, but is not for everyone, you will especially enjoy it if you're a fan of the original Alien films. When you see this movie go with an open mind, and pay attention to every second and detail of it because it's all important.
P.S. There will be a sequel! Don't get your panties in a bunch over a few unanswered questions.

my synopsis: engineers are fighting or conquering some planet or faction. instead of guns they create bioweaponry. as they measure time in millenias and plan ahead for thousands of years they do this: instead of going in guns blazing like primitive beings they drop an alien queen or some monster on the planet and let it do their dirty work. they certainly didn't keep them as pets.
they left signs for humans for some reason... to track them to the base once humans had sufficient tech. so then when people arrive they could gauge their technological level. so something happened in their base and they fucked up, kind of. i dont know what the original pla was to get humans up there... seems they would be capable of visiting earth anyway. which they seemed to be doing until the outbreak.
they were about to go to earth but then something stopped it. it was never made clear what it was.

I really enjoyed it and thought it was great. However, I have to say I'm alittle disappointed with the space jockey. In Alien it shows the space jockey in the control seat or whatever, dead sitting in there with its chest burst open. In Prometheus the alien/space jockey got up out of the seat to go chase Shaw. It was a pretty big let down because I was really looking forward to finding out what happened to the space jockey.
Major complaint with the movie, aside from that I think it was a really good movie.

In the movie David said there many ships. I have not seen the first alien in a while but did they
find it in a crashed ship?

i was thinking this is an alien rip off. but what you all say its far better. on the previews i thought i saw the giant alien they first found in alien. and the face hugger pods. will deff. see this when i comes to pay per view
and yes deadhearts it was a crashed ship.

Yes they found it in a crashed ship, the same crashed ship can also be seen in Aliens when that family drives up on the structure, it is the same ship that's in Prometheus and Alien.

Yea and it was sending out a distress signal which the crew containing Ripley picked up. I've always thought that the scene where the three of them go into the alien ship and discover the space jockey and the moments leading up to Cain getting facehuggered was one of the creepiest and darkly atmospheric moments in any film I've seen.

Prometheus takes place before the events of Alien 1, I don't see how or why they would include that specific engineer and ship from Alien 1 in the story. Prometheus and it's sequels are going to build a much larger universe for Alien than what it already is, and going back to the past (or in the future should I say) to specific events in Alien 1 would be pointless.
But I would love to indulge your curiosity! 
The Engineer was probably flying the weaponized ship to somewhere (maybe earth?) and somehow a face hugger got loose in the ship and raped his face; thus causing his chest to explode and crash the ship!
Here is the 'space jockey'/Engineer in Alien 1 BTW.
On another note
Prometheus was shot with 3D cameras and it looks SO GOOD! 
If you can, you should absolutely see it in 3D while it is still playing.

just watched it... loved it
now, I went into it with absolutely no expectations at all really, as I downloaded it off my torrent site with only the description it had on there to let me know what it was about... I had no idea it was done by ridley scott, let alone a 'prequel' to aliens.
until about half way through or so, when my girlfriend wiki'd it on her blackberry... that's when some things really snapped into place, like why all the 'ruins' they were exploring reminded me so much of aliens 
then that helmet... I was like "why THE FUCK does that look so fucking familiar to me???"
then it dawned on me.... THAT'S THE FUCKING FOSSILIZED THING FROM ALIENS!!
that scene in aliens where you see the 'space jockey', for some reason, has always been the part I remember most, left an uneasy feeling in me looong after I watched it... even though most people I talked to didn't even remember it, or even put much thought into it.
the fact this movie even touched on it, to me is epic... especially the fact that they are apparently the creators of the human race.
I really look forward to the sequel(s)... and there better be at least one 
my GF didn't even believe me that that the 'engineer' was indeed something I remember seeing pretty much in the background of the original aliens until I googled it right after... I fuckin KNEW IT though

Might watch it again someday, I guess it was pretty good but it seemed like there was so much hype that made it seem like it was gonna be way better than the alien movies, I guess it was but I watch Men in Black 3 after that and it was goood.
Also it seemed like the movie wasn't meant to be watched on anything other than HD, so I will be checking out a light 1080 rip when it comes out.
