Hobart, Tasmania Mushroom ID
    #16304473 - 05/30/12 03:59 AM (11 months, 13 days ago)

Hey guys,
This is my first time hunting for shrooms after having tried them last saturday, Least to say it was amazing.
This one mushroom caught my eye, But i am unsure what species it is.
I'm sorry if this is an incorrect ID request but if any of you have an idea the species of these mushrooms i would be grateful.

Habitat:
Soil residing near ponds and moist areas of pinebark and grassy areas.

Gills:
White.

Stem:
Solid, dark brown colour.

Cap:
Conical Shape.

Spore print color:
Currently making one.

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:
Sweetish mushroom smell, Blue tinge on the outside of the cap.

I also found these little ones growing in groups not far away from that one.

The first appears to be Psilocybe subaeruginosa. The second (group photos) are a Galerina species... potentially deadly.

Thanks mate , I honestly thought i had a better chance with the second lot.
Is there any way to check that the first one is 100% a sub? without ingesting it of course.

I'm fairly sure that's what they are but a spore print will help to be certain

Doing one right now towards the back ontop of my pc case, The slight warmth from the exhaust fan shouldn't effect things too much will it?

If it dries out it won't drop spores. You're probably better off printing it at room temp. You can also cover it with a cup or bowl or something to keep the moisture in. I often spray a bit of water in a cup to keep the humidity up.

If you have blue bruising and a purple-brown print from the first mushroom then it is Psilocybe subaeruginosa.

I probably sound quite stupid for asking this but could you give me a bit of information on this blue bruising? There was a bit of blue on the stem and outside of the cap but im not a 100% sure.

It will look very blue. This is not the species you are searching for, but you get the idea.

Thank you bfogg, I ate the mushroom last night cause i was quite sure that it was Psilocybe subaeruginosa, where i cut the cap off was quite blue colour. Please don't tell me i got the wrong species and ingested a toxic mushroom.

Edit: I meant "Please dont tell me" haha.

The blue bruising is produced by the oxidation of psilocin and is usually seen where the mushroom has been damaged. I can see blue bruising in your photos.
Here's another example:

Eating that one mushroom would not have done much. You would have to eat more to feel the effects.

Okay, Thanks again.
I did feel a little something, i was quite relaxed that was about it though. Spent alot of the time stressing out thinking i ate a toxic one.
If you could post pictures of toxic mushrooms that look alike to the one i found in the first picture besides galerinas, i would appreciate it.
