Solar stocks?

I been looking into solar stocks and I noticed solar companies aren't doing good at all. I was thinking of investing. Only thing is I don't get why solar stocks would even be doing this bad in the first place.
Anyone have any opinions on solar stocks?

Solar energy is very expensive to start and barely pays itself off by the time its lifespan is up. Wind energy might be a better thing to look into

Solar panels have become a commodity, monopolized by intense competition from Chinese producers. Difficult for any specific publicly traded business in the industry to make a killing unless they come up with new and better patented technology.

geokills has got it right with this one. There is a huge amount of supply and not enough demand. The only way for companies to get ahead in this industry is from innovation.
All of this is however good for the consumer, as solar prices have dropped dramatically.

depends where you live and how expensive electricty is. Im in Denmark right now, electricity is expensive which makes the payback period less for the solar panals.
