I understand how it is man.
This thread is kind weird, just today I talked to my mom, first time in about 2 weeks, and she was telling me about my grandma who also has alzheimers. In the past 2 years my grandma has really gone down hill. Just a few years ago I could conversate with her normally, and she was who I really know her as.
I live a few hours away from home and the past few times I go there to see family I just see her getting worse and worse. Last time I was there it was at Christmas time and she was hugging and trying to kiss random people inappropriately. Like it almost sounds comical but when I saw it and knew what was happening it was so sad.
My mom told me today that she's getting her funeral stuff ready....she's only expected to be around for another six months to a year.
It's crazy, the whole life and death thing.
Just know there's other people you can relate to that are in your situation.

thanks man. things seem to be working out and it looks like ill be making it up there. i will leave on the 13th and get back the 16th. i hope she remembers who i am, but im praying she remembers my mom. i know it would kill her. yeah, she has those last few memories, good memories, but im not sure if she could handle that.
i hope i can handle seeing the state that shes in now. i know im going to have to be the strong one... i hope i can be.

I feel for you bro.
At 36 I do not have a grandma or grandpa, on either side of my family.
I actually just shed some tears from a post on facebook that a family member posted and it made me think of this thread. My Uncle who was pretty much my last father figure past away a few months ago. It was a photo from about 20 years ago, which included me and my now gone grandpa and uncle.
Shit fucking hurts at times, cherish the moments you have with the her.
All know, I got my uncles bow. I am going to take down a mother fucking deer with that in the next year or two and dedicate the feast to that man.
