can anyone out there enlighten me on what kind of sentence someone would get after getting caught with 35 pounds of marijuana with intent to sell?
3 weeks ago my room mates got raided by the DEA with 35+ pounds of 'juana. One of them has a prior drug trafficking charge with a weapon (trafficking pills), this is the other guys first charger. all this happened in FLorida. Are they looking at Federal Prison, State Prison, or possibly a chance at getting off the hook since it's one of their first charges (if he decides to be a CI??)
i was in jail when i heard about all this, just did a 5 month bid myself. kind of glad I was locked up otherwise I may have been with them when it went down

i am KNEE DEEP into the marijuana scene in Michigan, and although it's not florida, there are similarities.
under "normal" circumstances, if it was the actual DEA that raided them, it's because the feds want to pick up the case..... although i have seen cases like this where local law enforcement turns it over to the feds if they have reason to believe there are guns involved. guns + drugs often equals a fed case.
a lot of it is going to depend on what was really going down .... did your dude sell to an undercover a zillion times? or was it just an anonymous complaint from a neighbor and upon further investigation the house smelled like a farm.... thus giving probable cause to just knock the doors down?
in any scenario, if there are previous charges involved, its prison time.
the ONLY time i have EVER seen anybody "get off" (no jail) with that much is in a medical state (Florida is not one) .... because the person was carded to manufacture, possess, and transfer cannabis .... but they were just holding more than they were carded to hold.
best of luck to them ..... but my gut tells me its not gonna turn out well.

They probably could've killed a cop and been better off.
Or raped a dozen children, your pick.
Sorry, they're gonna get fucked.

What a shitty deal, but I'm surprised at how slack those laws are, I figured Florida would punish people more than that.
Up here in Canada, having anything less than an ounce equals possession (up to 6 months, $1000 dollar fine) although oftentimes Pigs will just take it from you and send you on your way.
Trafficking: More than 30 grams: imprisonment up to 5 years 3 kilograms or less: imprisonment up to 5 years More than 3 kilograms: up to life imprisonment
However these outcomes are generally worst case scenario. My buddy got caught dealing and spent I night in jail and was on probation for a year.
