Safe??????
    #15990339 - 03/24/12 05:00 PM (1 year, 1 month ago)

So I grew PFTek shotgun FC about 8 months ago. I picked, then put in front of fan right away for a couple days. Didn't havent (normal) desiccant so I used Ice Melt with a paper towel to seperate the goodies from direct contact. (100% clacium chloride) They never cracker dried, they seem leather-like. This was my first grow. There was not a sign of contams at all during the grow. I took some and vomited but only felt sick for few minutes and this is kinda norm for me. (I tripped my balls off first so they potent lol)

Now 8 months later I checked the jar and they have white hairy fuzz growin on them. My question, is this mold?????? Maybe it is just Myc regrowing??? I dont understand why they never cracker dried. The stems seem hollow almost. From my understanding a sealed jar with a good amount of calcium chloride in it (I also threw in a packet of silica gel I found a few weeks later) should cracker them. They are just as dry as they were a few months ago basically no change.

I just want to know if I can eat them......
Should I make a tea or something if it would be safer?????
I would hate to throw out 1/2oz because a few pieces have white fuzz on them, but if I must I will.
Im kind of newish at cultivating but have def done my research.  Thank you for answering in advance.

that's mold, consuming them is just asking for food poisoning IMHO. I'm surprised that bacteria and hence bad smell didn't develop, given how they were never dried properly.

No desiccant will work once it has already absorbed a certain amount of moisture, at least not without being dried again first.

Here's some info on eating moldy food:

Thanks for responses. I wouldnt risk it, in the trash they go. Will use better drying technique next time.

I am suprised they dont smell too though. I also would think they would have rotted a little or something if there was moisture.

Bacteria requires higher water activity to grow than molds do. They were probably dry enough to inhibit bacterial growth but still wet enough to allow for the mold.

I see, that makes sense. desiccant never properly dried them all the way and was used up thus leaving ineffective desiccant and partially dried shrooms. Sucks if I just changed the desiccant we wouldnt be having this conversation.

Just to clarify they are trash bound right? What about some kind of extraction?(Methanol? Tea?) Can you extract psilocin without inheriting the mold??

Well unless you're desperate or in prison or something  No point in consuming moldy mushrooms when you can just grow some more and not have to worry about getting sick.
