News regarding the "God Particle"

Work done in the Tevatron collider at the Fermi National Lab near Chicago provides important independent confirmation of the getting-closer announcement last year by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research near Geneva, researchers said. The results from work by more than 800 scientists were to be announced in Italy on Wednesday.

“Globally the world is starting to see a consistent picture,” said Fermi physicist Rob Roser, a spokesman for one team. “I don’t think there’s any place for the Higgs to hide. We’ll know the answer one way or another by the end of 2012.”

I would totally LOL if the guys at Fermi found the Higgs before the guys at CERN.

Didn't CERN turn down Higg's original paper about the god particle?

one question, the higgs would be the quanta of the force of gravity right? But I thought gravity was explained as the curvature of spacetime... why need a quanta if an object is just reacting to the curvature of space.

The best I've heard it explained is as the particle that acts like a bead on a string that you are trying to pull through a giant pool of maple syrup. Normally the string pulls fine but the Higgs gives it resistance to movement, which compares to the higgs which gives all matter Inertia.. which is basically what mass is. Resistance to acceleration.. right?

Im not sure gravity has been explained yet so I dont think that questioned
can be answered. The higgs by itself would not explain gravity I dont think.

I meant in relativity, I've heard it qualitatively explained as describing gravity as the curvature of spacetime, which was proved when the light was observed bending around the sun during an eclipse
