help? OttO bucket/ elementary coir grow
    #15832183 - 02/19/12 03:10 PM (1 year, 3 months ago)

so im making a otto bucket and im not sure where to put the holes i read like an inch above the substrate but im not sure where that line is gona fall. so i used the elementARY COIR TEK to make my substrate so i can figure out how much room it is gona take up in the bucket and figure out where the holes are gona go and now i have like 3 gallons of coir. am i suppose to put all that in a 5 gall bucket or just a portion.

btw if i ever decide to make a differnt type of substrate im worried that it might take up more room and be higher than where i will be putting the holes.

also not all of the brick has broken up and im stiring it with a rusty shovel. does any of that matter?

I don't know the specifications of the TEK, but you will want the first row of holes level with the top of the substrate. Maybe make your holes 4" up or so you can have a substrate depth of around 3.5"?

I did a bucket tek once...think I had a hairnet on the top of the bucket.

Here is a link to an Otto bucket grow I did: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13233773#13233773

Substrate should be at 'field capacity'. When you lightly squeeze it a couple of drops should run out and stop. If you squeeze it hard a small stream of water should come out and then stop.

I think this will help you out:

http://SubstrateCalculator.info

And it's corresponding Shroomery thread:

P.S. - You probably already know this, but just in case, "radius" is the distance from the center of a circle to the outside edge of the circle.  So flip your bucket upside down and measure from the center of the bottom of the bucket to the outside edge to find it's radius.
