Almost fully colonized mad bags
    #15646800 - 01/10/12 09:16 PM (1 year, 4 months ago)

Okay, so a FOAF knocked up a few mad bags on December 6th. It is now January 10th. 1 bag was 50% colonized and she broke it up and mixed it very well, now its just about done. However the others she did, became..she'd say 90% colonized. There solid blocks not fully covered(can see patches of substrate). They seem to have stop colonizing, they've been in the same state for like a week and a half. she was wondering if she should just go ahead and fruit them. she thinks maybe they're dehydrated? If so, she knows it's risky, but she wants to shoot sterile water into the bag like inoculation. Any ideas?

Did you already break up the cakes at around 40-50%?

Yes, all of them at the same time. If it helps, the one that's doing well is Roatan Hounduras and the others are Koh Samui super strain.

Madbags don't really colonize 100%. It will actually start to fruit in the bag long before the surface is fully covered with mycelium.

Cool, I'll start fruiting one right now then. I broke up the other two to see what happens.

Fruiting in-bago depends on the pore size of the filter used on the bag in question.

(it is not guaranteed to happen)

Good luck,

JD

P.S. ..but, then again, you both have "mad bags"....perhaps you can assume the same pore size?

yep, all mad bags are the same.

I've had every one of my madbags start fruiting in the bag before I transferred it to a SGFC.
